A rakugo, or humorous short story, tells of three men that prepared a ___ stew but were unsure as to whether it was safe to eat. To test the stew, they gave some to a beggar. When it did not seem to do him any harm they ate the stew. Later, they met the beggar again and were delighted to see that he was still in good health. After that encounter, the beggar, who had in fact not eaten the stew but hidden it, knew that it was safe and he could eat it. The three men had been fooled by the wise beggar.

that is the puffer fish (also caled the blowfish) .In the episode One Fish, Two Fish, Blowfish, Blue Fish , Homer goes to a sushi place and order for fugu (which is the blank in the third test) which is a delicacy made from the puffer fish..
after which the doc tells him he's gna die... when he expects death he listens to larry king talkin abt something...the real larry king..

There is an episode of Hustle also where the cons get held hostage and are forced to eat fake fugu. just information if anyone decides to use this question again.
